CompTIA EMEA 2010 Conference Takeaways
The conference was fantastic, at a risk of repeating the information that will be released from the slides; I’ve just highlighted a few notables below.
Zen and the Art of PC troubleshooting
Mike Meyers, leading author of various CompTIA titles, is going to pen a book which will tell you everything about PCs. Mike is definitely what I would call a technology evangelist. He is keen on building a community of trainers and educators. His online handle is desweds at everything!
He is a fan of the Sysinternals tools made by Mark Russonovich and loves World of Warcraft. He is happy to count himself as a nerd and wants to ensure that instructors manage their nerds through use of “projects”.
CompTIA Academy
CompTIA are looking towards creating CompTIA Academies which would drive up the usage of its Strata certifications. The first academies are expected to appear in November.
They are also doing a “refresh” on their Certification pathway to include a clear roadmap from entry level (Strata), Professional (A+, Network+ etc.), Master Practitioner (newer certifications for Security, Storage etc.) and Recognised Expert (more industry aligned e.g. Health IT).
CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) starts beta in January.
Zen and the heart of the Social Media
Increasingly more and more companies are making use of Social Media to reach out to their customers. Making use of online document sharing and collaborative tools will be the future. When using Google to search that is pretty much the “dead web” whereas searching Twitter feeds is the real live web.
