CompTIA EMEA 2012 Takeaway

On October 23rd, CompTIA members and partners descended upon London for a day full of CompTIA related goodness.

Once again, the CompTIA UK/EMEA team did not disappoint with a fantastic conference chocked full of information – so much so that it was hard to decide which presentation to attend.

One of the most interesting presentations was delivered by Terry Erdle (@terdle1) who delivered  a session showcasing the needs of the industry and the upcoming certifications. He highlighted that there is a greater need in the industry for security, cloud-based solutions and supporting mobile devices. In response to this need, CompTIA will be releasing the following certifications over the next 12 months:

  • Cloud+
  • Mobility+
  • Secure Application Developer

The Secure Application Developer is a very big step for CompTIA since they are delving into the developer certification industry whereas previously CompTIA has focussed on IT infrastructure. Additionally the certification will be available in two flavours: iOS and Android. This is another remarkable step for CompTIA as they have always positioned their certifications as vendor-neutral. Will this gamble pay off? Only time will tell. The worse case scenario could be that it becomes an “iNet+” certification which will be quietly be discontinued.

The A+ 2012 was also a big focus of the conference with Mike Meyers (@desweds) leading the floor once again and spoke about all the changes that were coming in 40 minutes. Needless to say, Mike had (once again) barely scratched the surface before he was asked to wrap up.
